Sunset Area Duplex Improvement Demonstration Project

The City has worked with community members and other partners for more than ten years on ways to improve the lives of residents of the Sunset neighborhood. In spite of many changes and investments such as the new Renton Highlands Library, additional improvements are still needed for the neighborhood, largely due to the age and condition of many of the World War II housing units originally built as temporary quarters for workers at The Boeing Company and PACCAR. Most of these 75-year-old buildings need a variety of improvements to increase their livability, durability, and energy efficiency.

The City, Renton Housing Authority, and King County Housing Authority are joining together to fund a demonstration pilot project to show how investment can extend the useful life of these properties while improving living conditions and building appearance. The demonstration project is intended to show the need for additional funding for more units in the Sunset neighborhood.
